RPMI 1640 MEDIUM
Cell Culture Media

RPMI-1640 medium was developed by Moore et al., at Roswell Park Memorial Institute, hence the acronym RPMI.RPMI are general-purpose enriched media with extensive applications for a vast range of mammalian cells including human myeloma, mouse hybridoma, human leukocytes and B and T lymphocytes. It was originally formulated for suspension cultures and monolayer culture of human leukemic cells.

There are a multitude of different compositions for this medium according to the needs of the cultured cells:
With or without L-Glutamine
With or without phenol red
With or without HEPES
With L-alanyl-L-Glutamine (stabilized glutamine) in place of L-Glutamine
